Tips – What to Eat for Breakfast before Yoga

What do you eat before yoga?

Going to a yoga class immediately after a heavy meal can be uncomfortable, especially when performing certain poses. However, that doesn’t mean you should go with an empty stomach. It’s highly recommended to have breakfast before yoga to give you enough energy to stretch, bend, and twist into different poses. Not eating at all could mean you lose focus and become distracted. A simple tip is to have a small breakfast rather than a large one. To help you maximize your yoga practice by enjoying the right food, here are some pre-yoga meal ideas.

1. Fruits

Choose high-fiber fruits ideally with extra protein. You can go for a banana before your yoga class. Avocado is also a favorite among yoga practitioners because it is high in minerals. Another option is to eat a bowl of sliced fruits with a small scoop of sugar-free yoghurt.

2. Smoothies

For a quick yet delicious and nutritious pre-yoga breakfast, drinking a smoothie can be the best alternative as it’s quick and easy to digest. Simply combine banana, avocado and milk together. Remember not to go too heavy with the number of ingredients, as it may slow down the digestion process. Stick to a light mix instead

3. Nuts

These little super foods will give you a boost of energy and also help you to stay hydrated. Be sure to choose a handful of plain, unsalted ones. It could be almonds or any other mix of your favorite nuts. Organic and raw nuts are the best choice for you. Do avoid the salted ones.

4. Oatmeal

A bowl of oatmeal is a great idea for breakfast before yoga. Oatmeal is known for being rich in fibers and are slow digesting carbs, providing sustained energy and fulfilling your appetite for a longer time. Additionally, add a bit of cinnamon to enhance your oatmeal’s taste. Whatever you eat, try to finish it at least 20-30 minutes before getting on the mat. Steer clear of greasy or fried foods before class.
