To surf or not to surf?

Why surfing is literally a sport for everyone, and you will learn faster than you think.

“Am I fit enough to be able to surf? Do I need to train before you go surfing? What muscles are most important when surfing? “

These are all legitimate questions you are probably asking yourself if you’ve never been surfing. Well, here’s some good news for you: (almost) everyone can learn how to surf. Sure, you have an advantage if you’re already a fit, sporty spice but it’s not a prerequisite. Surfing is actually one of the few sports so many people enjoy learning.

The fun part about surfing is you get fit while you learn. Seems obvious? Yes, it really is that simple. Imagine this: a beginner surfer is paddling paddling paddling for waves, giving it his/her all to catch the next one. However, he/she wipes out completely over and over again. Which, let’s face it, will happen a lot in the beginning. What the beginner surfer doesn’t realise, is that in the meantime, you’ve developped some serious arm muscle, which makes it easier to paddle the next time. It might take a long time before someone is able to run half a marathon, but arm muscles grow pretty easily. So while you are ‘failing’ (correction: there is no failing in surfing) you are actually ‘training’.

Not saying that you will be ripping waves from day 1, but you’d be surprised how fast your paddling skills and pop-up technique can evolve, with the right instructors. That’s why our surf guides are in the water with you, helping you catch the waves. They don’t just passivly sit there watching you go, but look at your feet, posture, and power. They encourage you and give you feedback during and after the surf session.

It’s hard to explain the feeling of pure bliss when you’re laying on your surfboard after you’ve caught some waves.. The fun of joking around with the surf guides, and loudly singing along with the songs in the surf van on the way back from the surf safari. There’s only one thing to do really: experience it yourself! Whether you’re a runner, a tennis pro, a couch potato or a ballet dancer.. Everybody can learn how to surf, and everybody should. You will understand the #pelan way and the joy once you get here, trust me.

Practicing yoga after your surf session is the perfect combination. Check out our possibilities here ! You will love it <3
